Galt's Gulch in Ecuador? (mp3 audio)

This dude Mike Adams aka "The Health Ranger" with a GCN radio show spent an hour giving a pitch about where in the world he's chosen to relocate: http://www.vilcabambahomes.com

He also touches on a couple other bug out destinations he's checked out, among them Panama and Costa Rica. What he says there is mostly true, depending vastly upon which part of these countries you're talking about, but having spent half a year mostly in Panama 2 years ago, I'd disagree with his description of the "garbage" factor on Panama's highways. Small point though, go check it out yourself. He's right about one key thing re Pan: the locals get dollar signs in their eyes when learning that a gringo was looking at whatever they were selling. I don't fault them for that though, human nature and all... and certainly not unique to Panama.

Here's an MP3 of the show,

(rapidshare newbies, click the "free" button, wait out the minute-or-so countdown, enter the funny looking code into the box, submit & begin download)

Let me just vent up front, he says the word "safe" way too much. :banghead:

ahem, Ecuador is the "yellow country" in the top-left area.

Bush's bug-out ranch is in the "pink country" near the middle, ~2-3 thousand miles away. :coolbeer:

Ecuador is nice, but the property prices for lots on that ranch are more than I would ever pay for small acreage, especially in a country with volatile politics . Quito is a nice city with a spring like climate and bougainvilleas growing everywhere.

I traveled the rural areas going to local market days buying handicrafts (Ecuador is where they make Panama hats also). Some of the rural towns are rough and some of the Indians were a little hostile outside of the tourist towns...but when they found out I was a buyer they got more friendly.

You ought to go down there and check it out...it's a good vacation if nothing else. Good country to export from...you can export antiques from Ecuador, but not Peru or Bolivia.

Rural Colombia is dirt cheap because of it's reputation - I lived there for a year and had no problems. Dress like a bum and don't wash too often and they don't see you as a target - and never wear a watch. Why would you need one? When it's dark and you feel sleepy it's night, when you wake up it is daytime. I've just bought 400 acres of mainly forested land there for an obscenely low price. A freshwater spring comes out of the ground on that land, and not too far away from that the fishing is fantastic.
Plus, if I wanted to build there now and stock up, you can buy an AK for about $20-$25. And of course there is the never ending supply of cocaine, or just coca leaves. Anything will grow there, anything.

I think Doug Casey has got something similar going on in Uruguay and/or Argentina...
